Meet the Owner and Gunsmith of

Lock, Stock, and Barrel

Lock, Stock, and Barrel is a small, family-owned business that is owned and managed by Chris Lyon, Gunsmith. He is assisted by his wife, Susan Lyon, who assists with the administrative tasks and leads the firearms training side of the business.

Chris is passionate about firearms and especially enjoys restoring older firearms. He first became interested in gunsmithing when working for All About Sports, where he managed the gun counter and installed scopes and sights. He finally got the chance to pursue his passion in 2013. Ohio: From Landscapes to Decks

In the Beginning

Originally from Loveland, OH in the Cincinnati area, Chris’ background is in landscape horticulture, home improvements, and sporting goods retail. He owned two successful businesses, Three Seasons Lawncare and Lyon Home Improvement. In addition, he managed a large sporting goods store, All About Sports. In 2010, he moved to VA and continued growing Lyon Home Improvement where he specialized in kitchen and bath remodeling, and custom decks like this one shown to the right!

Colorado: Becoming a Gunsmith

Making the Grade

In 2013, Chris decided to shift careers and to pursue gunsmithing. He applied and was accepted into the Colorado School of Trades Gunsmithing Program in Lakewood, CO.

In early 2015, Chris completed the rigorous program where he earned his degree in Occupational Studies – Gunsmithing. This challenging 18-month program included hundreds of hours of classroom training and shop work on numerous firearms. Chris was also vice-president of the Colorado School of Trades Gun Club.

To complete the program, he was required to successfully complete at least 35 jobs on firearm repairs and build his own custom rifle. When you come in the shop, ask Chris to see his project rifle!

NRA Instructor, Armorer, CNC Operator

In addition to the regular curriculum, Chris became a certified NRA Instructor for Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Basic Shotgun, Refuse to be a Victim, Personal Protection Inside the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Chief Range Safety Officer.

He also became a certified armorer for Glock, Beretta Pistols, Mossberg Shotguns, Sig Sauer Rifles/Pistols, and Remington Rifles/Shotguns.

Chris took advantage of the opportunity to learn about computer numeric control (CNC) and complete a CNC course after his graduation from the Colorado School of Trades.

Virginia: Lock, Stock, & Barrel is Born

Getting Started

Chris started Lock, Stock, and Barrel in early 2015 with limited gunsmithing services. He has gradually expanded the services to now offer a wide range of services such as bluing, Cerakoting, color case hardening, and barrel threading. He completely remodeled a building on his property to be a fully functioning shop.

The Rest of the Team

Mustering the Forces

Susan assisted with the administrative side of the business from the beginning, but in 2018 decided that she wanted to be more involved and initiated offering firearms training. She became an NRA Certified Instructor and Lock, Stock, and Barrel started offering NRA Basic Pistol Courses in April 2018.

Susan is a 20-year veteran of the Army National Guard where she received training and qualified annually on the M9 (9mm Beretta 92FS) pistol and the M4 (AR-15) rifle. In addition, she participated in the VA Army National Guard State Pistol Competition in 2018 where her team placed 3rd in the state. In her civilian career, she is an Instructional System Designer for a government agency in the intelligence community.
